Good Things #28

So amid the conflict either great or small, do not be discouraged; God is over all. Count your many blessings; angels will attend, help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

1. Rhett & Brooke are MARRIED. :) :) :)

2. Cameron, Connor, Leo, Carlos, and Charles all have their mission calls! It’s so exciting to see where these boys that I’ve known for years are headed… and I’m so proud!

3. Cadbury Eggs are perfect. Having a bad day? Eat them. Having a good day? Eat them. Your day is ten times better!

4. I really like it when people tell me to look up songs… and then when those songs are super great? Score.

5. Less than 85 days until I GRADUATE.

6. This week is halfway over.

7. I had a rough day yesterday until I went to work and closed with Aaron. He is awesome. AND Josh came and visited us for like an hour… kinda like he did a lot in the summer and it was cool. :)

8. I’m (mostly) caught up with homework and I’m so proud of myself! This accomplished feeling has been gone way too long.

9. Mrs. Hatch told me that I am a really good writer.

10. Josh is my tell-all-my-problems-to-friend. It’s a mutual thing–he tells me his problems too. I love it! Even though we complain a lot sometimes, it’s so great that we can let everything out to each other. He LISTENS to me. AND gives me advice (and comfort when needed). I love that.

11. I have the cutest little stuffed animal bear. He is the perfect cuddle buddy every night and I am so grateful for my cutest little stuffed animal bear. :)

12. I turned in my pictures for yearbook and I now have a good grade and I am sooooo relieved.

23. I’m thankful for mutual. It’s like a breath of fresh air.

24. I LOVE NICE PEOPLE. *cough* Emma *cough*

25. Jake & Carlos hug me every time they see me. Jake is a tight hugger, and Carlos is a lift-me-up hugger. I LOVE IT. They are so fantastic and I’m so grateful that they’re my friends.

26. Favorite Girl by Icarus Account might just be the cutest song on earth.

27. I really love weddings I decided. Like a LOT. And the idea that someday it might be me in the white dress with some handsome boy who thinks I’m the prettiest girl in the world… Yeah. It’s a sweet thought.

28. God blessed the world with music… I’m grateful for music. Also, (this is wayyy off topic) when I pray for cute dreams, He gives me weird ones. It’s funny. ;)

29. When people tell me they like my clothes I feel really good. I know appearance shouldn’t matter too much, but it’s nice to know that I don’t look too terrible!

30. I’m grateful for my mom & dad and all they do for me. They give me chance after chance… kinda like Heavenly Father. And they love me like He does too… I am blessed.

Don’t you know she is my favorite girl
I wanna run away for days with her
And if you promise not to say a thing
I’m gonna buy that girl a diamond ring
I say ooh, I think I love you
I love you; my favorite girl

I haven’t been this excited in a long time. :) :) :)

Hello February

It’s February?!

January just flew by! Hooly cow! The older you get, the faster time seems to slip right through your fingertips. It’s crazy how that is, and it’s crazy how much I notice it recently.. I had a significant week at the end of January. It was SUPER busy, but looking back, I think I loved it..

First off… Can I just tell you how lucky I am to have the parents that I do? They are perfect (for me). I’m not saying we never get mad at each other, but when I need them most they’re there, and they always give me the best advice. They have experienced trials well beyond their years and I look up to them so much for keeping it together. I love them. I love that they support me! On Monday, I had a Sterling Scholar Banquet. If you didn’t know already, I won the Vocal Performance one. I’m not sure why I applied for it, but turns out it was a lot more work than I thought, but my parents were there to coach me and let me complain to them. hehe We went to the banquet together and it was actually pretty fun. :) I love my mom & dad.

After the banquet, I drove home and went straight to my room. I opened the door annnnd…. there were balloons all over and I got so excited!! There was a Harry Potter book on my bed. On each of the balloons was a number and then a page number. So I went in order, and flipped through the pages to find the high-lighted words: “It would be a dream come true to go to prom with you.” AHHH! I got asked to Prom!! Like who would have even thought that would happen? I was quite surprised… I mean I’m a senior! But it’s cool. I get to go with my lifelong friend and I’m thinking it’ll be lots of fun… :) I just need to reply but I’m out of ideas right now (HELP!)… haha I’ll keep brain storming though! PS: Today after school Connor was looking through websites with prom dresses… I think he might be more excited than I am. ;)

My favorite day this week was Tuesday, definitely. I was asked by Josh’s family to go to the airport with them and take pictures of Hermana Hinton coming down the escalator and seeing her family for the first time in a year and a half. Of course I said yes! I hitched a ride with Randy and his parents. To be honest, I was soooooo nervous. I didn’t think I was qualified to take pictures of such an event… like what if they all turned out blurry?? Lucky for me, the camera liked me that night and I was able to get some good footage. And oh my goodness it was better than I ever thought it’d be! It was so exciting and everyone was so happy and it was just one of those moments in life where you never want it to end… Good thing I had a camera to capture it all, right? ;)

Brother & sister. Really hits home and I loooove this shot!

All the cousins!

All the cousins!

Cute sisters. :)

Cute sisters. :)

The thing that really stood out to me though was when Ash wasn’t hugging her cousins and aunts and uncles and everyone else, she was next to her dad. Now, Todd Hinton isn’t someone I know that gets super excited over things… He’s pretty chill about almost everything! Well I could tell how excited he was when Ash came down that escalator. I could tell that Ash is a Daddy’s Girl, for sure. :) He had his arm around her as often as he could and he was just so HAPPY. I loved it!

Hermana Hinton and her parents.

Hermana Hinton and her parents.

Like Ash & her dad, I couldn’t help thinking of me & my dad, but also of me & my Heavenly Father. Ash was gone for a year and a half, only able to communicate to her parents through mail, with them waiting and watching her grow spiritually. What a great experience to have as a parent! Then I think about all of us here on this earth. We are gone for however many years we live, only able to communicate to our Father through prayer, with Him waiting and watching us grow spiritually, mentally, physically, etc. And then when Ash got to her dad and they hugged for the first time, they were SO happy. Imagine how it’s gonna be when we finally get to our Father’s arms! I sure hope He will be excited to see me. I hope He’ll wrap me in His arms and say, “Abbey, you did it. And I am so proud of you. I love you so much.” I think of all of the joy that was felt in the airport that night and can’t even begin to understand how much joy there will be that day in heaven…

AH. So many emotions that night. :) I’m so grateful I could be there and it just makes me so excited for when my own family can experience that!!

The rest of the week was spent wishing I had more sleep or more time to do homework… seriously SO stressed. I had work, homework, “band practice”, math review session at the school, tests, two essays due… yeah, crazy. It’s all over now though, so yay. ;) What I love most about being stressed is that.. well, obviously you can’t STAY stressed. You have to find a way to relieve it! Get a break, so to say.

"Hey! Let's lay on the floor and pretend like we're actually standing!"

“Hey! Let’s lay on the floor and pretend like we’re actually standing!” -Randy

Yup. My stress reliever goes to…. Randy! So thankful for him and that he lets me vent to him and that he laughs with me (hopefully not at me) and tells me stuff as much as I tell him stuff. We’re friends. :) And I like that! If you’re wondering who took this photo it was Josh… :) He’s definitely my go-to whenever I have dilemmas at school and boy am I grateful for that boy as well!

This Friday was the Battle of the Bands… Guess who was in a band? Yeah, me. With Jake Graves, Taygun Loader, Amber Graves, and Jake Jones. We had so so many long practices at my house with my mom. It was fun but time consuming… ya know? Well the day had finally come. We competed against four other bands. There were so many of my friends in the audience, and even when I pretend I don’t want anyone to come, I’m secretly really happy to see familiar faces in the crowd (shhh). In my opinion, we did a great job for only practicing for two weeks! Nate was at the side of the stage watching and cheering us on, and my brother was super cute in the audience, and I just felt like I was in a movie or something! ;) Performing gives me such a rush. Anyway, we won People’s Choice! Pretty exciting.

Some friends & me after the Battle of the Bands. So glad they came. :)

Do I write too much? I think I write too much.

So now that I’m done writing about January……………

This month I might possibly be meeting David Archuleta (!!!!!)… on Valentines Day (!!!)… oh and Randy will be there too.. ;)

This month Brooke & Rhett are getting married. :) :) :) :) :)

This month I have my senior recital and then I’m done with piano lessons. Forever. Bittersweet…

This month I find out if I made it into BYU or not.

Yeah. I’m thinking February is gonna be pretty awesome. So I am happily welcoming a new month! Even though it’s closer to graduating and closer to for reals growing up, I’m beginning to be okay with it…

One last thing: We read this scripture last night as a family… Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” And it got me thinking that like what it says in D&C 10, I don’t need to run faster than I am able. I don’t have to have all this stress weighing me down all the time. Last night I decided that this month is gonna be different than January, not just because of the cool things that are gonna happen, but because I’m gonna be different, and I’m gonna give more of my time to the Lord and let Him help me. Christ has all the answers for us. No matter how hard life gets, He’s there. Like… If I don’t make it into BYU, that’s okay, and God knows it’s okay. He has a different plan for me. I’m just hoping we can become better friends this month… And I think that’s what I’m most excited for.
